Definately a great movie to watch for the composition. I remember noticing on a recent re-viewing how shots with Andy in them have a lot of space around him, showing not only his isolation from the othera but his desire for freedom, but after his last chance of being re-tried is literary shot, we see him sitting against a wall, and the wall is taking up a good 3/4 of the frame, creating a very claustrophobic feel to the tragedy.

Oh, another bit that just dawned on me. In the scene were Andy is sitting against the wall, Red kicks a soapstone against the wall. Soapstone is what Andy was using to carve his chess set. By backing that stone into a corner, it is another symbol of defeat, that "the game" is over.

I'm doing alright. Thanks for asking.

What an insight of the scene! I haven't seen it for a while but I remember that particular scene. I'll make sure to pay better attention next time.
Thank you for sharing these, Erik! Glad to hear from you.
